Yes, one of the guys from "Krisis" had his LAW explode (was loud enough many thought it was the bird-banger at first)
Just REALLY glad to hear/see the guy was okay. He's cut-up pretty good... but he STILL PLAYED ON until the very end!!!! (kudos)
Going into the final battle... the teams were separated by less than 100... (Confederates having the lead) SO.... it could have gone either way.
In the end Confederates won the battle..... but EVERYONE WON because it was one AWESOME day for paintball... and another great Event. ;D

Who from Krisis? Does anyone know if he was using HPA or CO2? Did he have it chrono'd? Being a "spudder", I'd like to know about the failure, for research...

It was Josh from Krisis and he was using HP air. It appears that the PVC pipe gave way due to fatigue. It was not a pretty sight.
Ronn, Jennifer, Greg and others ran to the situation and had it under control while the entire Park was "game down..." The game resume in about 15 minutes and as they say the rest is history.
Josh is doing fine but we are all concerned with his hearing in his right ear. The lacerations were severe but not enough to stop him.
It will now be a policy concerning LAW launchers that they must be manufactured by a company and not be of the "homemade" variety. I personally think that all of the players by Josh were lucky and Josh was the luckiest of all. We did find pieces of PVC scattered about... Safety first folks...

I was speaking with Josh (aka Smoke) towards the end of the day and he remarked that his hearing was returning. As Twister mentioned he has some really gnarly looking lacerations but nothing serious. I guess he's down to six kinds of smoke. <Blatant movie reference>
Beyond that unfortunate incident, it was a really a great game! The weather was nearly perfect with a nice breeze to cool everyone down. Thanks to everyone involved for a really good time!

It was insane, me and Imagine a bunch of other people thought it was the bird banger, it wasn't quite as loud but still very loud then every thing girded to a halt. I hope he heals well and his hearing gets better, I have to say he is tough most would have stopped playing.

I'm glad Josh is doing OK. I was wondering when one was going to fail.
Who put the gnomes out?

I'm glad Josh is okay, too. Unfortunately, I think Twister has made a wise decision about no homemade launchers on the field. This is one of the prime reasons I never sold my plans for my launchers. You really need to know how to work with PVC and all the associated plumbing to make a good launcher fail safe. All to many times I have seen launchers at the field that are kind of hacked together... cough, cough, Shrub, cough, cough. Plus, Spudlaunchers (PVC) aren't made to be beaten about by the rigors of paintball, that's why I abandoned the one I made and bought the JCS. Multiple hits by a paintball or even the g-force of a drop to the ground will stress even the best made PVC PAW...
Twister, a hard decision, but right on. I'm glad to hear Josh is doing fine. I know I saw one of Krisis recently made LAWs and it was made VERY, VERY well, but this shows that even the best can fail.
However, DBD ain't gonna like it much, but a rule is a rule and I think even DBD (Zox) has a modified JCS... He had it at DOTI... Of all people, I know the guys on DBD will understand, since they know their launchers...
Dang, I can't say it enough, I'm so glad everyone is okay!!!
BTW, what about tanks??? I would suggest that since they are safe from the rigors of being beat about by paintballs and drops, they might be considered safe to use.

Being at the opposite end of the field it still sounded like a 12 gauge going off.
A&B was very glad to hear that Josh, his teammates, and everyone close by was not more seriously hurt.
Josh, we're pulling for a complete and quick recovery and hope to see you at Splatbrothers again soon. You're definitely one of the toughest young men I've ever met.

It was an impressive sounding BOOM ... He had lacerations around the right side of his neck, and across his right shoulder and chest ...
Seeing the remains of the LAWS, Josh is one lucky man ... hope he remembered to buy me a lottery ticket like I asked ...

Another "keeper" day of paintball at SplatBros. Definitely worth the almost-3-hour drive from west of Raleigh, NC. I personally did not play very well yesterday, but son Jester had a great time in his debut as a demo guy for the Union army.
I was off the field when Josh's LAW let go. It was a most impressive blast, and Jester and I are also very happy to know that Josh is ok. We saw the cuts - ouch - and I'm not surprised that his hearing is coming back. If you ever experience hearing a big-bore pistol go off in an enclosed space, you'll know what Josh has been through. Your hearing just stops for awhile.
As regards the new no-homemade-LAW rule: Speaking as an outsider/newcomer to the SB community, I would like to see the rule amended to allow launchers whose pressurized components are steel or other suitable material, with pressure gauges in place unless 12gr CO2 cartridges are used. Jester's LAW uses a 12gr adapter feeding into a steel expansion chamber far heavier than the cartrdge itself. The Black Knights' other launcher uses an HPA tank pressurizing a steel chamber with pressure gauge in place. The only PVC component is the 2" tube and cap itself. I'm building another, similar launcher now and, acting on a tip from one of the SOVA guys, I will friction-fit the tube so it can actually pop off the pressurized components if a rocket somehow got truly stuck.
Thanks again to SB for a great game and to SOVA and the other teams for a great day of paintball.
