PLEASE read these people, especially the barrel tagging rule. At the last game, a guy went all "postal" when he ran across the field touching people, not saying a word, then got ticked when someone turned around and shot him from behind. He said that he had just taken out all the players that he touched. He had no ABT on, so no one tried to stop him from "touching" everyone. Finally, someone recognized him as an opposing player and shot him. NEVER ONCE did he say "barrel tag" or ANYTHING for that matter. Even then, the ref called a few of the "touched" players out... So please, read and KNOW these rules... Refs too.

Great example Spud. As it states in Splatbrothers GSRP, "Know this material... if you don't, you're at a serious disadvantage." Those who best know these rules use them well and those who dont are sent to the reinsertion zone.

I admit it is difficult to retain every little detail and for an ultimate referee like Coyote im sure it is a duanting task especially with the fact that these rules vary from field to field. Being a referee myself i admit it is difficult to remember everything but i do my best to make the calls as accurately as possible and the trick is not letting any of players know that you dont know everything.....wait a minute. Honestly though if you ever have a rule in question be sure to find the head referee or the game director and they will more than likely have an answer for you....just be sure you find out the correct answer before you call yourself out

Well, before I reff'd my first MXS game (of course I was base ref for Corndog, so what I'm about to say was a MUST), I learned, studied, and memorized the ENTIRE GSRP... ;D ;D And yes, I really do think the refs should know the rules inside and out. ( However, I understand that can be hard for some of these younger people that still have school to worry about ) The ultimate ref shouldn't be the one solely responsible for know ALL the rules. It should be the ultimate ref's job to clarify the rules or work out any grey areas.... Atleast, that's what I think.... hehehe

Thank you Spud...for the work that you put in before that game. And yes...like Spud my knowledge of the rules came from dealing with Trapper and being a base ref for Coyote and also being around Dwight A LOT before those games...For those that don't know all the rules...learn them and don't be afraid to clarify them with those that do...and to those that do know all the rules...read them again I bet there is something that you missed...also don't hesitate to make sure those that don't know the rules end up knowing them.
An elderly gentleman once told me that we needed to "dumb" down these rules for the games so that the walk-ons would understand the game better...I had to disagree with him...for if we do that then we are merely playing a very long rec-ball day with bases. The rules are what set us as experienced players and teams apart from the walk-ons...but we still need to help them develop an understanding of the rules.

Always good to download a copy and re-read the rules prior to any game. There are rules addendum's that get published that are game specific. Such as this game may allow helicopter insertions, and the next one doesn't, One type of aircraft may be able to carry 4 players plus the pilot, but a reconnaissance or fighter aircraft only the pilot. And should you ask someone you think knows the rules, beware ... for there are one or two persons out there that miss on the "Scenario Directors" interpretation ...
