For $200, look into a Smart Parts Epiphany. It's a great gun to start with. But if you get an electro, please practice in semi. It will much easier to improve your game if you practice in semi.

Thanks! Try on a few masks to see what is most comfortable to your face and vision needs. As for a gun, Start with a used ION. They are usually very decently priced and usually have upgrades on them. If you would rather go mech, get a used automag. Very easy to work on. Start off with used equipment and go from there. it will save you a lot of money to start with and if you end up like most of us, you will go through several guns until you find the one that you like the best and fits your playing style.

I highly recommend the Profiler. It has good facial coverage, vision and is reasonably priced. But, it might not fit a small face. As for a hopper... personal preference. Then again, what in paintball isn't personal preference.

Things to consider when getting your gear:
Cost (including cost of maintenance) fit playing style maintenance durability your specific knowledge and availability of knowledge for your equipment (i.e. tech manuals, and friends that can show you how to do certain things) Your own physical characteristics (how much can you carry for how long, do you wear glasses, etc)
All of these things will have an effect on what you do and don't like about your paintball gear. In 15 or so years of play, I can't tell you how many markers and masks I have gone through. Opinions vary on different types of equipment based on personal experience and sometimes the biased opinions of others. Avoid getting a marker because it looks cool or all your friends have one. It may not be what you are looking for. The best advice anyone can give you (IMHO) is to "test drive" equipment if you can. Borrow a buddies markers and play a game. Have him/her show you what the basic maintenance is afterward. It may shoot great, but be a pain to maintain.
As for masks, first and foremost is protection. After that, is fit and vision. Once you have met those requirements, only then should you consider the "cool factor". Thermal lenses are a plus and so is the ability to change lenses out quickly while maintaining the integrity of the mask.
Hoppers: From my experience, hoppers can vary in capabilities and the "do I like it factor". Price is always a concern, but a lot of people get wrapped around the axle on "how fast it can feed". Who cares? you can't go above 15bps at most fields anyway, and most tourneys have dropped to 13.5 bps. Does speed really matter in your style of play, or do you just want the "Cool factor"? Again, start with a used one or borrow one to see what you like and if it will be compatible with your marker. Believe it or not, not all hoppers work well with every gun. Take a look at battery consumption as well. You could end up spending tons of cash on batteries. Some hoppers can take a velocity or gangsta chip that increases speed and saves batteries. Others you can buy an after market board for that will accomplish the same thing.
If you are just getting started from the ground up, here is what I would suggest:
Events mask (very easy to maintain/clean, lenses change out quickly with wide variety of lens colors) Used ION (you can usually get them with a decent barrel and a few upgrades for a decent price. If you get one, make sure you get the back out bolt option. Will save you lots of time and you won't break as many parts) Compressed air tank (don't even bother with CO2. it's going away anyway. Get a used carbon fiber in good shape and within hydro, or a NEW steel tank)
As for a harness, that is purely personal preference between a vest or a pod pack. I use either or both.

I can't really help you here. Even from the start I had my husband's gear to choose from. ( the only thing i wasn't allowed to use was his e-mag) My first Mask Was a JT Proflex but i now use a v force profiler. I like the V force better. My first Marker was a Tippman 98 custom and then i got a pirhana which every was always asking when i was goin to upgrade after that I bought a Vice from a fellow paintballer (well it started as a marker both my husband and I owned but I kindda sorrta took it and claimed it as my own lol) Hopper wise I use a Revulation but my husband says i need to upgrade as it can't keep up with the vice when i get in one of my moods. My husband uses Halo A with his e-mag.
