I would do it, but My leader won't give me permission. Trust me, I want to do it badly, and it makes me sick that nobody else does. Seriously guys. Pathetic. If my coach was running all of the players, we'd be doing sprints for a month since nobody steped up by now.

You should NEVER general a game unless you have previous experience as an XO or command staff for at LEAST two games prior. Unfortunately, since no one ever want's to general, no one can get that experience. Kind of a catch-22.

There are more reasons not said here as to why many players don't want to step up to General.
Some of you, being Veterans to the command role, know how it used to be when you put forth hard work to recruit teams to your side... the planning and implementation of strategy... what it meant to negotiate with far-away teams and distant fields in playing for favors, then cashing in on those favors... and to utilize ingenious tactics to draw the players in to serve under your banner...
This is how it used to be... this is what made the games great... no, EXCEPTIONAL!
Yet none of you can honestly tell me that this is what happens anymore.
If any ol' walk-on player chose to just hop onto the throne and call himself a General, I don't think I'd continue to come out and play much; for or against.
I don't play for personal awards. Nor do I drive 90 minutes to Splatbrothers to sling some paint and not care whether or not my contibutions meant anything. Au contraire. I play because I like to think that I was a part of something (winning or losing side). If my side won, a part of that victory was mine. If my side lost, I learned something and will try harder next time. I don't go home hanging my head in shame.
Rather than speak in generalities for those that don't know what I'm specifically hinting at... I'll just conclude with simply that the reason people are NOT stepping up to be a General is because they don't fear losing. Yes, it's all a game... but it's that "fear", however slight, that drives the good General to put forth that effort into winning, while maintaining a good balance of fun in the mix. By no means am I saying Winning is everything.
If a General can't give me that experience, then why play Scenario paintball? Rec-ball in the woods is just the same.

Reminds me of something I said not too long ago...
Glad to know someone is on the same page Mikey and I are on, Tuan.
If you want my honest opinion, I just think there is a shortage of people who are willing to take the risk these days. I know there are circumstances preventing some people from assuming command roles....but there's plenty of people who are capable.
No disrespect intended to anyone here. I love you all...but I'm not liking what some of what I see these days.

OOORRRR u could just do it just because... just sayn I'm reffing a game at a different field that weekend, sorry. Otherwise I would take the spot. Besides, after more than 20 games as either a General or XO under my belt at various fields on the Eastern Seaboard, I think I've proven myself. But if you need to see it, gimme a minute, LOL.

Like I said-reffing a game on behalf of Paintball Big Game Productions that day. And at the extreme risk of sounding arrogant (trust me, I'm really not), I've generalled or XO'd more games than 98 per cent of the people on this forum, and ALL of the people on this thread. I've earned a day off or two from the CP, LOL. But if you INSIST I get back in the CP, then maybe I MIGHT be willing to clear up a later date. Not likely, I may think about it. (And yes I know you were joking, but I'm also aware other people were thinking the same thing and were serious about it.)

No, I'm not.
I'm not trying to disrespect anyone else. I'm not trying to say I'm better than other people because I have spent so much time in the CP. I honestly don't think I'm better than anyone.
I AM however, very sad about the current state of leadership for paintball games. People can call me a hater if they want, can tell me to back up my words if they want (even though I already have). But I'm willing to bet most of the folks who have been playing here awhile agree with me.

Ok I am going to say it. The lazy leadership has led to rules being adjusted on the field to allow that leadership. Used to be if you went in blind, and played blind to what it took to lead... You were going to lose (Market Garden any one?) but, now the game has become so cut, and dry, quite frankly, being general is just a pass a un-encrypted pre-written mission card, to a group of players, and tell them to run it and smile saying good luck deal. Most of the missions dont matter with the exception of prop missions, in which props have been made stupidly heavy (We had a player hurt his ankle carrying up one of the cannons, and once to the top the darn thing fell apart). The thing is that while its awesome that it only takes two people who are 300-400 pounds to carry it, it takes about 4 high school to collage age kids. Quite frankly i dont know how that cannon being a mission is even insurance legal, carrying it up the hill from maze city.... If we had dropped it it would have rolled down, and injured any one in its path. I personally don`t want to general because its a race for the three props, and with the game organization these days, who ever gets those props, is who ever has 10 (15 some times) people at the CP first. Flame away kids EDIT: The new CP rules don`t help much, used to be focus was on missions, now you can focus on the cp because, in theory you can cut half the opfors mission by killing their cp every 30 minutes.
