look at it this way. right now there is only one megaphone and it makes it hard to here the refs.... what if there are 6 on the feild at once... then what??? i think its a great tool and corndog and ofu should be proud to be the ones behind it. but i think its time is over.

I have never had a problem hearing a ref because of it? If I have ever not heard a ref its more then likely some one shooting a marker next to me, or me shooting my own marker.

...sometimes I don't hear them due to selective hearing. Coyote, try to get your guys to say things I WANT to hear from time to time. A few examples:
1. "Go ahead and shoot that sixth and seventh rocket, VooDoo. Its all good!"
2. "Hey VooDoo....advance as far as you like, I'll call you clean no matter how much paint breaks on you !"
3. "Here's a complimentary case of Draxxus Gold, VooDoo."
4. "Be careful VooDoo....I heard Red Devil is hiding behind that spool over there."
5. "VooDoo, don't sleep in a tent this weekend. Come over to my place and get a hot shower and a nice fat steak and potato!"

Regretfully as with anything new or different or devious, that a player does, it sometimes affects game play and then eventually, the GSRP ... excellent example is the barrel tag rule where we now say that the barrel must be attached to a "functioning" paintball marker. Coyote and I initially abused that rule because it was "gray" when it just said "Barrel must be attached to a marker". Then everyone started trying it. The old adage "Fool Me Once, Shame on Me, Fool Me Twice, Shame on You" applies. One megaphone on the field really isn't a problem, so far ... and wasn't a problem during the last game. However, when you begin to get two, three, four, fifty, it is a major problem. Also, you will have someone begin hollering things that players may think are coming from referee staff. So, the discussion has begun, and it will probably fall into the category where players are not allowed to carry whistles, tools, cyalumes, etc, as those are referee / staff items. So, it is being looked at and discussed.

I need to chime in here, since I was the one that started suggesting using megaphones for the generals at the SB field (starting with Slinky I think). At most of the fields I have played at, other than Splatbrothers, megaphones for each side have been allowed and have NEVER been an issue. I agree with Trapper, more than two and you run into problems, but especially with a field as large as Splatbrothers, a megaphone for EACH side SHOULD be allowed and no problem whatsoever. It is an outstanding tool, not only for psyching out the OPFOR, but to also help those players that DO NOT have comms get into the play by being able to better hear their commanders. If hearing the ref is a problem, then sorry, I don't buy it. During a final battle, I submit that the multitude of paintball markers firing is MUCH louder than a megaphone. As for refs making game stoppage, I think ONLY a ref should be allowed to carry whistles. Again, ALL the fields I have been to, ONLY refs can carry a whistle, just like EVERY OTHER sport. If you hear a whistle blow, then the game STOPS!!! Period!!!! I have a feeling this is just another case of sour grapes. I propose for Splatbrothers, since this is the field that this seems to be an issue, that each side is allowed ONE megaphone (maybe even have SB supply them). They are NOT to be considered a prop, so they can't be taken by the opposing side (much like the command radio). It is a tool for communicating to the players. It can be used anywhere on the field. However, if the player is SHOT OUT that holds the magephone, then the megaphone can't be put back into use until a player (with megaphone in hand) reinserts the game and tags into the base. Easy as that!!!! What say you, Coyote?

I seriously doubt that there are any sour grapes involved. We all love seeing C-Dog and his guys dance on the GSRP during the events....but sometimes discussion follows. As far as hearing the Ref's goes, I have never had actual hearing effect my relationship with a Ref on the field. If I am directly involved with a Ref for some reason....he/she is right there within sight, or talking in my ear next to me. To date, I have never actually heard a Ref call a cease fire, I have always heard that call over my radio long before hearing a Ref say it.
For the record, I have no issues with the megaphone, the shield, the umbrella, the sheep, the hot dog launcher, ETC............I would like to believe that we can discuss these types of things, however, without the implication of sour grapes being brought up. They are topics of interest (which is exactly why C-Dog LOVES them so much), and are going to draw attention (...also why C-Dog LOVES them so much). just because we throw them around in open discussion doesn't mean we are against them in a negative way (anger, envy, jealosy...etc).

I guess I should have read over the entire thread first, sorry (blushes drastically). It just seems whenever it is anything to do with C-Dog, someone is ALWAYS saying he broke the rules.... Even so, I would have NEVER considered a megaphone a PROP, as I would consider it equipment, just like a radio....

Ok...here is C-Dog on all this
1. A problem may arise with a player misdirecting and acting as a ref to cease fire - A radio is just as effective at calling a cease fire under false pretenses as the mega phone....btw GSRP state that you can't act as a ref if you are not...I only relayed a message that I was directly given by a ref to put out. If I were going to break the GSRP with or without the megaphone and call a cease fire I hope that I would be thown out the field and wouldn't be allowed back cause that's what I would want if someone else did it...btw players make calls all the time and I know myself and voodoo are guilty of this one..."PLAYER YOU ARE OUT I HIT YOU CHECK YOURSELF YOU ARE OUT!!!!" sounds like something a ref would say.lol Not saying that something like that should be "banned" it conveys the idea that I THINK I saw something break and you need to look for yourself.
2 The megaphone can make it hard to hear a ref - ok right now there is one megaphone...there might end up being 10...How many paintball markers are on the field? I know from experience that when someone beside me is ripping on someone hearing a ref is not an option unless they are standing right next to you. Also...if this is a problem then that leads to the necronomacar not being allowed to play its radio as it drives accross the field or any other tank with a stereo in it...or maybe even not being allowed to turn on cause their motor is loud.
3 Someone might say something on the megaphone that would offend someone - I laugh at that...sorry if it offends you that I laugh at that comment...but I have offended plenty of people without the megaphone. I actually tend to be more conscience of what I say on the megaphone cause I know that it is louder and more people can hear me...
4 It could cause an injury - I don't get this one cause I'm not sure how someone screaming on a megaphone causes someone to hurt themselves unless I am screaming at them to jump off the top of the barn and THEY LISTEN TO IT!lol as a matter of fact the megaphone helps to prevent injuries...if I can't talk for 4 days after an event because of yelling I consider that an injury...I know some of you consider that a blessing but the megaphone prevents me from injuring my vioce non-the-less.
I know there were more arguements against the megaphone...and I know there are plenty of people waiting to say that I am not a scenario player or even a paintball player for that matter. If you have another arguement for banning a megaphone I hope you do post it. Yes Voodoo I do like to push the bounds and I like to debate subjects...I also like to win...therefore if the megaphone gets banned, in a way I win cause I effectively got a rule change for something that I have done and second I will find something else to mess with.
With the way that OFU plays and the things that we do...we are deadly, we are effective...I would also like to point out that someone said that I was a coward for the way I play personally...I am sorry that I get a kick out of that...OFU does not just skate around the rules because we want to only...we also do it because we have to. Sorry that the college kids trying to pay loans and such can't afford 3 cases of paint for an event. So we find other ways to gain the victory for our General. We do what we have to do....WIN. We stop at nothing, other than cheating, to complete our goal...Tiredness, no paint, no air, sickness, even injury won't stop us. We still push with everything and every bit in our heart. You show me a team that plays with as much heart as I have seen out of these college kids and I will show you a very elite group of people. Most teams rely on paint and markers and LAWS to complete a task....we have ourselves and our team mates to rely on...A very respectable man once told me that the most power weapon I would ever have would be my team mates on my left and right...and I live and die by that on the field.
BTW...OFU has a few new toys in creation...should debut in the next 26 hour event. hehehehe

Also if you mistake Corndog for a ref, you need a stronger prescription!
However that being said I understand the point being made.
Also Voodoo, point 4 should be told to all players by the ref as a point of safety!
